Performance of Grounding System Under Lightning Strokes

Abstract

In this chapter, one of the most important types of faults of the electrical networks is presented, which is the lightning phenomenon. This chapter presents an explanation of the phenomenon of lightning, the types of lightning, the types of lightning's effect on the electrical network, difference between direct and indirect lightning strokes, as well as the problems associated with the phenomenon of lightning and how to solve these problems. Also, this chapter presents a study of the effect of transient lightning stroke on the grounding electrodes.
